The North Carolina A&T Aggies saw four players score double digits in points as they beat Howard University, 70-65, in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) game Jan. 14 at Burr Gymnasium in Washington, D.C.

Sophomore guard Jeremy Underwood led all Aggies with 13 points, while junior forwards Lawrence Smith and Adrian Powell and senior guard Marc Hill each followed with 12 points in the win. Another A&T contributor, junior forward/guard Austin Witter, didnโ€™t score double digits in points for the Aggies, but he pulled down 10 rebounds along with five assists, two blocks and two steals.

Howard senior guard Calvin Thompson led all scorers in the game with 17 points, while senior guard Glen Andrews was second among shooters with 16 points. But the Bison were out-rebounded 40-30, and struggled at the free-throw line, shooting just 63 percent compared to the Aggies’ 73 percent.

โ€œI’m very pleased with my team. We had to get a game back after losing at home,” Aggies coach Jerry Eaves said, referring to the team’s home loss to Bethune-Cookman on Jan. 7. “We came from behind in the second half. That’s huge, especially on the road where they had all the momentum when they took the leadโ€ฆ It was an overall team effort.โ€

A&T advanced to 7-12 overall, 2-2 against the MEAC, and will see more MEAC North action Jan. 21 in a trip to Baltimore, Md. to face Morgan State. They also face Coppin State in Baltimore Jan. 23 in an ESPNU televised feature at 7 p.m.

Meanwhile, Howard lost six straight games, and fell to 4-15 overall this season, and 3-2 versus the MEAC. They face non-conference opponent North Carolina Central on Jan. 16 in another home game at Burr Gymnasium.
