On March 18, 2014 Pocahontas “Pokie” S. Outlaw passed away in her home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on August 2, 1932 to Kermit and Sarah Jane Edwards Swinson. In 1936 when Pocahontas was 4 years old, she moved to Washington, DC with her parents.

Pocahontas attended John Wesley from 1939 until her teen years. She later joined Salem Baptist Church where she was baptized as a teen. In 1953 Pocahontas joined John Wesley AME Zion Church under Rev. E. Franklin Jackson.

Services will begin with the viewing, 10 a.m. and the funeral, 11 a.m. at John Wesley AME Zion Church 14th & Corcoran Sts., NW Washington, DC 20009.
