On Aug. 9, pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 19-year-old Marc Butler of Suitland, Md. in connection with a Northwest D.C. homicide earlier in the month.  Butler was charged with first degree felony murder.

The Metropolitan Police Department also arrested 19-year-old Marcus Martin for the Aug. 3 shooting of two men in the 600 block of N Street, NW. The area has had two homicides in 2016, according to data collected by the police department.

According to police reports, officers responded to a shooting around 10 p.m. Officials found two men suffering from gunshot wounds in a parking lot in the Shaw neighborhood. Both victims were taken to area hospitals for treatment. Derryk Johnson, 19, later died from his injuries. Police said Johnson had been shot in the head. The other victim was shot twice in the back and in his leg. He was admitted to the hospital in stable condition.

Martin was also charged with first-degree felony murder, police said.

Police made another arrest in a violent crime case. On Aug. 4, authorities arrested a man in suspected connection to a July homicide.

On July 2, Antoine Danell McCullough, 30, from Southeast D.C. was shot several times on the 3500 block of 18th Street, SE, according to police reports. The reported homicide is the only homicide the immediate area has had in 2016, according to data collected by the police department.

Around 12:10 a.m., officers responded to a call for a “man shot in the chest.” Police said they found McCullough injured by gunfire and transported him to a local hospital where he died shortly after.

The department’s fugitive unit arrested Jeremiah Jordan, 26, Southeast, on an arrest warrant and charged him with first-degree murder while armed, police said.

There have been 77 homicides in the District as of Aug. 9, a 13 percent decline from a year ago at the same time according to data from the police department.
