Comptroller Franchot Names Allegany Woman to Cumberland Branch as Taxpayer Outreach Specialist  

Adrienne Ottaviani Brings 30-Plus Years’ Experience to New Role

ANNPOLIS, Md. (January 21, 2016) – Comptroller Peter Franchot has named Adrienne Ottaviani of Cumberland as his taxpayer outreach specialist at the Cumberland Branch Office, which serves taxpayers in Allegany and Garrett counties. Ottaviani previously served as the executive director of the Maryland Coal Association in Cumberland and was a marketing and public relations representative for Friends Aware in Cumberland. She also has served on the Allegany County Board of Commissioners and the Allegany County Board of Education.

Born in the small coal mining town of Brownsville, Pa., Ottaviani is the oldest of seven children. When she was 16, the family moved to Dundalk and Ottaviani graduated from Patapsco High School in 1965. She began her work career at an insurance company and later worked in insurance claims for the U.S. Coast Guard in the District of Columbia. She and her husband, Phil, have been married for 48 years and have three adult children, nine grandchildren and one great-grandson. The Ottavianis opened Ristorante Ottaviani in Cumberland 11 years ago. It is family run, with son Tony as manager, daughter Gina as waitress, and a granddaughter and grandson serving as hostess and bus boy, respectively.

Ottaviani served on Gov. Larry Hogan’s Transition Team; and throughout her life has been appointed to and served on: the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Power Plant Research Committee; two four-year terms on the Maryland Economic Development Commission; the Gov. Robert Ehrlich Commission on the Restructuring State Government; the Maryland State Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors; the Allegany County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors; Friends of the Potomac Board of Directors; the Maryland Comptroller Business Advisory Council; the Maryland State Board of Education under Gov. Parris Glendening; the Allegany County Women’s Committee; the Democratic Central Committee and St. John’s Lutheran Church.
