This past Veterans Day, Prince George’s County Council Chair Edward Burroughs III launched a new partnership with Vet for Vet and Victory Church International to aid veterans in District 8 with applying for and receiving Veterans Affairs benefits.

“Too many veterans are missing out on the benefits they have earned simply because they struggle to navigate the system. My goal with this program is to ease that burden and make sure our veterans are getting everything they’re entitled to,” said Burroughs in a statement. “Prince George’s County has the largest number of veterans in the state of Maryland, and I often hear from my constituents that the Veteran Affairs system can be an overwhelming and complex bureaucratic maze.”

Burroughs announced the partnership on Nov. 11 at a press conference, alongside Deborah Nelson from Vet for Vet, veterans that will benefit from this partnership, and Victory Church International representatives.

The overall goal of the partnership is to make the process of securing Veterans Affairs benefits easier for veterans that live in District 8.  Veterans can access free VA claim-filing consultations with Vet for Vet to get the most out of their Veteran Affairs benefits, such as compensation and pension increases, upgrades to character of discharge, aid and attendance benefits, caregiver program enrollment, HISA/adaptable housing grants, Veteran Affairs healthcare enrollment, as well as Chapter 35 benefits for college age dependents.
