Sen. Catherine Pugh (D-MD), was recently selected as the president-elect of the National Black Caucus of State Legislatures (NBCSL). Pugh has been a member of the Senate since January 2007 and represents District 40 in Baltimore City.

Since 2011, she has served as a member of the Finance Committee and the Joint Audit Committee and holds the position as vice chair of the Special Committee on Substance Abuse. She currently serves as chair of the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland and President of the Women Legislators of Maryland. Pugh is a graduate of Morgan State University where she earned a B.S. in Business Administration and an M.B.A. She is president and CEO of Pugh & Company, a public relations consulting firm. She is the recipient of several awards including the NAACP’s Benjamin L. Hooks Keeper of the Flame Award and Maryland’s Top 100 Women, as named by the Daily Record.
