Celebrations in Baltimore
Hello my dear friends of “Rambling Rose!” I want to first thank you for continuing on reading my column here in the AFRO for the past 23 years. Believe me I have enjoyed you as much as you have enjoyed me writing about your events, entertainment and accomplishments. I enjoy displaying your pictures so that my reading audience can connect to you personally. Girlfriend, you just don’t know how much fun I have. Thanks again for your invites and your stories. Just keep them coming and keep reading me.
Now this is a celebration I attend and participated in every year and have a damn good time is the Zion Baptist Church Community Day, which is June 22nd from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is a day of fun and entertainment for the whole family and the community and it is free! They have food and drinks; games and rides; bouncy castles for the children as well as face painting; arts and crafts, raffles and prizes, live musical entertainment on their big stage, children’s story time; and vendors of all kinds including me doing a book signing of my 2 books. It all happens at Zion Baptist Church starting at the 1700 N. Caroline Street. It is about three blocks long. I will see you there.
What can I say, Ursula V. Battle’s DisChord in the Choir Pitch Please! stage play is back again by popular demand. It is directed by Dr. Gregory Branch, special guest appearance by Baltimore’s Gospel Group “Serenity” on June 22, 2& 7 p.m. and June 23 5 p.m. at Johns Hopkins Hospital Turner Auditorium, 720 Rutland Avenue. For more Information, call 443-531-4787.
Shirley Duncan, “the Hand Dance Queen” is having her “All White Affair” on June 22 from 8 p.m. until 12 a.m. at the Promenade Dance Facility, 2605 Lord Baltimore Drive in Windsor Mill, Maryland. So if you enjoy a hold lot of dancing including hand dancing & line dancing and soul food, this is where you should be. Let me tell you this too. It is really an “All White Affair”. She do not play, you can’t wear black & white, red and white or pick and white; white trim in blue, orange or yellow. She means all white from the top of your head to the tip of your toes. The women and men both are held to this request. It is B.Y.O.B., lite buffet and free set-ups. For more information, call 410-523-0575.
Look, I would love to stay and chat with you a little longer, but I have to go to take care of my “Boo-Boo.” As you know, “Shorty” had his right knee replaced a few weeks ago so he is now my big baby. He is doing therapy three times a week and now he is walking with his cane and not the walker anymore. But, walking is a little difficult for him, but I am pushing him along. Keep him in your prayers and look out for me and the man with the cane at your event. We got to keep moving.
