Mark Meadows pianist Quintet will be at Caton Castle

The Caton Castle Lounge & Package Goods, 20 S. Caton Ave. in Baltimore, will host a dynamite jazz show on Sat. Aug. 8th from 6-10 p.m. with the Mark Meadows Quintet featuring a tribute to Bobby Timmons and Wayne Shorter with Mark on piano, Elijah Balbed on sax, Romeir Mendez on bass and Aaron Seeber on drums.

Now folks, this is a steam crab season and it is better than last year, because Maryland crabs are plentiful this year. The Chesapeake Crab & Beer Festival is coming August 22nd at National Harbor, Maryland. It is held under the cover of the grand tents, 300 Waterfront Street for two sessions from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and 5-9 p.m. This is the 6th Annual Maryland Tradition. The festival is an “All-you-can-taste extravaganza complete with over 60,000 crabs, lots of beer, arts & crafts, live music, family fun and so much more. Patricia Johnson’s 6th Annual African American Authors Expo will be held at the Radisson North Baltimore Hotel, 2001 Greenspring Drive, Timonium, Maryland on Saturday, August 15th. It is free and open to the public and is a family fun event including hundreds of authors from all over the country showcasing their books, including Rosa “Rambling Rose” Pryor. More closely to home, there is another crab feast hosted by St. Edwards Roman Catholic Church on Sunday, August 9th from 3-7 p.m. at Jimmy’s Famous Seafood, 6526 Holabird Avenue in Baltimore. Music by DJ Mike Jones. For ticket and information call 410-925-2573.

Enjoy another Maryland Crab Feast hosted by “Red Hat Hons/Book Club” on August 8th from 2-6 p.m. at the Corinthian Lounge & Restaurant, 7101 Windsor Mill Road in Windsor Mill, Maryland. The Movers and Shakers Social Club” do not have steam crabs, but they have a whole lot of fun every 2nd Friday from 8 p.m. until 12 midnight featuring hand-dancing and line dancing with a light buffet at the Elks Lodge, 411 E. . The Spindells will perform at the 21st Annual Ruth M. Kirk Family Fun Festival at the Franklin Square Park on North Cary and West Fayette Street on Saturday, August 8th with many other bands.

Curtis Anderson, Baltimore’s renowned radio personality, passed away Wednesday, July 22nd. He was a former air personality and program director for WWIN AM/FM radio. His funeral was at Wylie Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 4th. He will be truly missed by family and so many friends. Condolences to all who loved him.
