NBC News and other media outlets recently retracted earlier reports claiming that a rapper connected to a recent murder-suicide in Los Angeles is the son of the late legendary singer Isaac Hayes.

Earl Hayes and his wife Stephanie Moseley, who starred as a dancer on a basketball team’s dance squad in the VH1 series “Hit the Floor,” were found dead in their Los Angeles apartment in a reported suicide-murder incident on Dec. 8.

NBC retracted its claim after law enforcement sources confirmed that Hayes was in fact not one of Isaac Hayes’ 11 children. This information was corroborated by Isaac Hayes’ son, Isaac Hayes III who wrote on Twitter, “Earl Hayes is not the son of my father #IsaacHayes or part of the Hayes family. Any media reports published saying this are inaccurate.”

The Daily Mail reported that Hayes, 34, separated from his estranged wife Moseley, 30, two years ago due to an alleged affair with singer Trey Songz. The couple had been trying to reconcile their relationship just days before their shooting deaths.

Hayes was a part of boxer Floyd Mayweather’s record label, The Money Team; media reports indicated that Mayweather may have witnessed the apparent suicide-murder while he and Hayes were video messaging on FaceTime. According to TMZ, Mayweather pleaded with Hayes not to kill his wife after he claimed that she had been unfaithful to him.
