Comptroller Franchot to Tour Food Supplier’s HQ and Brewery in Laurel

Coastal Sunbelt Produce opened new facility in May; Jailbreak Brewing Company has raised more than $70,000 for Ellicott City flood relief

WHO:             Comptroller Peter Franchot

WHAT:          Comptroller Franchot will visit the Coastal Companies in North Laurel this afternoon and take a tour of their new 330,000 square-foot headquarters. Coastal Sunbelt Produce has emerged as one of the leading food service distributors of produce and dairy in the Mid-Atlantic. Founded 20 years ago, they now operate a fleet of 185 refrigerated trucks that deliver to Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey, West Virginia, Eastern Pennsylvania, Maryland and the District of Columbia.

Afterward, Mr. Franchot, in his role as the state regulator of alcohol, will visit Jailbreak Brewing Company, also located in North Laurel. Opened in 2014 by Kasey Turner and Justin Bonner, the 16,000 square-foot brewery and tap room has developed a following among area beer lovers and offer their unique brews to restaurants, bars and retailers across the state. Following the devastating flood in Ellicott City in July, Jailbreak put together a fundraiser that raised nearly $60,000 for flood victims and recovery efforts. They also collaborated with Flying Dog Brewery in Frederick on a special beer release that raised more than $10,000 for flood relief.
