Comptroller Franchot to Tour Gaithersburg Business Center, Senior Center and Laundry
– Comptroller to Spend Day in Montgomery County –
WHO: Comptroller Peter Franchot
WHAT: Comptroller Peter Franchot will tour Launch Workplaces with Gaithersburg Mayor Jud Ashman this morning followed by a roundtable discussion with some of its tenants. Launch Workplaces offers choices of private offices, co-working areas, conference rooms and lounge areas. Opened last fall, the center is owned by The Brick Companies. Currently there are 33 tenants with office space and 15 virtual clients who use the site for mailing purposes.
In his role as a member of the Board of Public Works, the Comptroller, Mayor Ashman and city officials will tour the Benjamin Gaither Center, which recently re-opened after undergoing renovations totaling $923,625, which included a state bond bill of $200,000. Facility Manager Grace Whipple oversees the 560-member center.
On his final stop, the Comptroller will present a proclamation and Comptroller’s Medallion to Nok Kim, owner of Rainbow Coin Laundry in recognition of its Rainbow Tutoring program. The Comptroller will be joined by Dr. Weymouth Spence, president of Washington Adventist University. The university’s Enactus Team organized ten projects in the Takoma Park area, including the laundry, where a tutoring program for K-4th graders was created for children to get extra help while parents do their laundry. Sam’s Club, which provides financial support through a grant, will present a check to Mr. Kim.
