WHO: Comptroller Peter Franchot
Local elected and community leaders
WHAT: Comptroller Franchot will visit the Allegany County Animal Shelter in Cumberland this morning to tour the shelter, which received $250,000 in state bond bill support over the last two sessions. The shelter plans to open a shelter-run veterinary clinic next spring.
Afterward, the Comptroller will head to Ristorante Ottaviani in downtown Cumberland as part of his fourth Shop Maryland for the Holidays tour. He then will stop by three other downtown businesses: Barkin’ Basement Thrift Shop, Baltimore Street Collectibles and Terry’s Jewelry. The Comptroller will continue on to Frederick for another holiday tour, beginning at The Trail House and then stopping by The Muse, Dancing Bear Toys and Gifts, Treaty General Store and ending at Crisafulli’s Cheese Shop.
Shop Maryland for the Holidays is an annual tour hosted by the Comptroller to encourage Marylanders to shop locally for the holidays. Shopping in local communities keeps holiday shopping dollars in Maryland and supports hard-working employees at local retail outlets.
