Comptroller Franchot to Visit New Office, Canal Place and Gas Station in Cumberland
-Comptroller to Open Office, Stroll Canal Place and Present Proclamation-
WHO: Comptroller Peter Franchot
WHAT: Comptroller Franchot will take part in an afternoon grand opening celebration today at the new Cumberland branch office, now located at the Allegany Museum, 3 Pershing St. The new office opened July 1 and offers easy and convenient parking as well as providing a broad range of services for the area’s taxpayers so they do not have to travel hours away to the agency’s primary offices in Annapolis and Baltimore.
Afterward, the Comptroller will join in a stroll of Canal Place with local elected and business leaders. As Maryland’s first Certified Heritage Area centered on the western end of the C&O Canal, visitors can now ride a steam train, hike or bike the towpath, tour a full-scale canal boat replica, and learn about canal history at the C&O Canal National Historical Park’s Cumberland Visitor Center.
Winding up his afternoon, the Comptroller will present a proclamation to Waynes Gulf Gas Station, a full-service station with a convenience store. The business, owned by Christopher Howell, has served the community for more than 45 years. It prides itself with clean facilities and friendly service.
