Comptroller Kicks Off Shop MD Tax-Free Week in Baltimore County and Baltimore City
– Comptroller Reminds Shoppers to Take Advantage of Sales Tax Break –

WHAT: Comptroller Franchot will be joined by Tom Saquella, representing the Maryland Retailers Association, and other local retail and elected officials today at the kick off for Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week at The Avenue at White Marsh. During Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week, which runs Sunday, August 9, through Saturday, August 15, qualifying clothing and footwear priced $100 or less will be exempt from Maryland’s 6 percent sales tax.
In the afternoon, the Comptroller will visit Cloud 9 Clothing specializing in young, contemporary women’s fashions in Hampden and owned by Randy Shayotovich. Started in 1991, the business has grown to include three other locations in Towson, Canton and Rockville.
Throughout the week, the Comptroller will be promoting the initiative in Queenstown, Annapolis, Bethesda and Waldorf.
