Comptroller Kicks Off Shop MD Tax-Free Week; Recognizes Owings Mills Crab House

WHAT:           Comptroller Franchot will be joined by Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and other local elected and retail industry representatives at the Mondawmin Mall this morning to announceShop Maryland Tax-Free Week, which runs Sunday, August 10, through Saturday, August 16. DuringShop Maryland Tax-Free Week, qualifying clothing and footwear priced $100 or less will be exempt from Maryland’s 6 percent sales tax.

Next week, the Comptroller will be traveling throughout the state to promote the initiative at Hagerstown Premium Outlets, Velvet Lounge in Frederick, Westfield Annapolis Mall and the Queenstown Premium Outlets. At noon on Friday, the Comptroller will stop by CJ’s Crabhouse and Grill in Owings Mills to present a proclamation to owners Jeff, Terry and Gary Sanders recognizing the restaurant’s seafood selections. CJ’s repeatedly has been rated one of the area’s best crab houses by Baltimore Magazine.Patrons also can sample crab legs, fried seafood with fries, and sandwiches including the shrimp salad club, friend oysters or the crab melt among its many selections.
