Comptroller To Speak to High School Seniors at American Legion’s Boys State Program

WHAT:          Comptroller Franchot will address 200 high school seniors today in the American Legion Boys State Program about his role as Comptroller, about the importance of integrity and character in carrying out the duties of his post and about Maryland’s economy and the role the students can play in growing and expanding their communities’ prosperity.

 

As part of an intense week of training, the students have met and listened to government officials, judges, ministers, political science professors, medical professionals and others as well as taking part in two days of political legislative simulations.

 

Organized by the American Legion in 1935, the group’s auxiliary also sponsors a similar program for girls called Girls State. Participants in either program are exposed to the rights, privileges, duties and responsibilities of franchised citizens.
