Franchot to Encourage Marylanders to Shop Tax-Free During Visits to Retailers in Bethesda & Waldorf

WHAT: With school days not far off, Comptroller Franchot will visit Beyda’s Lad & Lassie store, owned by Shelley Rosenberg in Bethesda, today to encourage shoppers to take advantage of the sales tax break for back-to-school clothing and footwear during Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week, which runs Sunday, August 9, through Saturday, August 15. Qualifying clothing and footwear priced $100 or less will be exempt from Maryland’s 6 percent sales tax.
In the afternoon, the Comptroller will visit St. Charles Towne Center in Waldorf to let shoppers know about the week-long reprieve from the sales tax. The Comptroller, who will be joined by Charles County elected officials and members of the Chamber of Commerce, will give a presentation at the Center Court on the lower level and then stop by several mall stores.
