Comptroller to Emphasize Important Role Financial Literacy Plays in Young Lives

WHAT: Comptroller Franchot will give the keynote address today at a Financial Literacy Summit at Chesapeake College in Wye Mills, co-hosted by the Maryland Comptroller’s Office and Junior Achievement of the Eastern Shore. Panelists of financial, economic and educational experts will explain the critical need for comprehensive financial literacy education and ways to improve students’ future financial security.
At noon, the Comptroller will deliver an update on Maryland’s economy and the 2016 tax filing season to members of the Talbot County Chamber of Commerce at their monthly meeting at the Talbot Country Club. Chaired by Rich Trippe, the Talbot County Chamber is the voice of business for 800 members representing 8,000 employees.
Afterward, the Comptroller will walk through the Amish Country Farmers Market in Easton with co-owners Merv Fisher and Dan Esh. In the early 1980s, Mr. Esh founded the Pennsylvania Dutch Farmers’ Market in Queenstown. In 2007, with the help of his two nephews, Merv Fisher and Merv Lapp, Mr. Esh opened the market in Easton.
