Franchot to Tour Chesapeake College, Speak at Salvation Army Lunch and Tour Easton Airport

-Comptroller to Join Educators at New Health Professions and Athletics Center-

WHO:             Comptroller Peter Franchot

WHAT:           In his role as a member of the Board of Public Works, Comptroller Franchot will tour Chesapeake College’s new Health Professions and Athletics Center Tuesday morning with President Barbara Viniar and other educational and elected leaders. Construction of the $37 million center houses the health and wellness programs and renovated gymnasium and athletic spaces. Construction of the center, which began in late 2013, was funded with a 75-percent state contribution and with 25 percent from five Mid-Shore counties.

The Comptroller then will travel to Easton to speak at the Keynote Kickoff of the Salvation Army of the Mid-Shore Red Kettle Drive luncheon. Based in Cambridge, the Salvation Army of the Mid-Shore serves Dorchester, Talbot, Caroline, Queen Anne’s and Kent counties. The kickoff encourages volunteerism and promotes the organization’s role. Alan Nelson is the Salvation Army’s local advisory board chairman.

The Comptroller will end his visit with a tour of Easton Airport/Newnam Field with Airport Manager Mike Henry. The Comptroller will see the terminal, hear about the vital role the airport plays in the region’s economy and will visit two hangars: the Spitfire Hangar and the Trident Aircraft Hangar, part of the U.S. Naval Academy’s Powered Flight Program to train 300 USN Midshipman.
