Statement from
Anthony McCarthy Regarding Removal of the Downtown Police Memorial!

“The need for changes in the Baltimore City Police Department culture is unquestionable. The people of Baltimore are demanding accountability and have grown weary of racist and bigoted police behavior. However the proposed legislation being considered by the City Council to remove a downtown memorial dedicated to fallen police officers is disrespectful to the memory of these men and women who sacrificed their lives and to their families who mourn their loved ones. Removing this sacred memorial does not advance any public policy or move us any closer to racial reconciliation but rather continues a hateful vile vendetta by a member of the Council against police officers. His colleagues on the council should shut down his efforts and refuse to entertain his childish behavior. There is real work to be done to reform our police department. This hateful action does not move us in that direction.”
