According to a statement released by his District office, Cummings underwent a procedure on May 24 at Johns Hopkins Hospital to treat aortic stenosis.

According to Fabion Seaton, Cummings’ press secretary, the surgery was not an emergency measure. The procedure, called Trans Arterial Aortic Valve Replacement, corrects a narrowing of the aortic valve.

Cummings is scheduled to remain in the hospital for a few days and will return to his normal schedule thereafter.

A representative from Cummings’ District office who preferred not to be named said the 11-term congressman is “doing quite well.”
