Rock Creek Conservancy, a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection of the lands and waters of Rock Creek, is celebrating the kick-off of the 125th Anniversary of Rock Creek Park with a weekend of service opportunities.  The Conservancy is hosting volunteers for the MLK National Day of Service with events from Jan. 17 through Jan. 20. Events will occur at 18 locations along Rock Creek in Washington, D.C., andMontgomery County, Md.  The volunteer activities will include: cutting English ivy from trees as part of the Conservancy’s initiative to protect the Rock Creek tree canopy; cutting vines such as Porcelain berry and Oriental Bittersweet so natives can grow in the park, and cleaning up trash that has accumulated along streams.
