Senior guard Anton Dickerson led Howard with 16 points and senior forward Mike Phillips added 10 points with six rebounds but it wasn’t enough to outmatch Rutgers Dec. 21 in a 79-55 loss in Piscataway, N.J.

This was the first time Howard had faced Rutgers in a men’s basketball game. Rutgers is now 11-0 against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) schools.

Rutgers was led by sophomore guard Eli Carter with 20 points, followed by sophomore guard Myles Mack with 15 points and four assists. Wally Judge, a redshirt junior, added a double-digit performance with 12 points, along with six rebounds and three assists, as Rutgers easily ran up a lopsided score over Howard.

Howard was able to cut the lead to just 11 points early in the second half, but Rutgers then went on an 8-0 run and pushed the lead beyond 20 points.

Rutgers shot 60 percent from the field as a team and forced 18 turnovers by Howard, resulting in 28 fast-break points. Howard shot just 45 percent from the field, simply not enough to keep up with the better Rutgers squad.

Howard (3-10 overall) will next face the University of Central Florida (7-3 overall) on Dec. 28 in Orlando, Fla.
