As a member of the staff at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation – we looked for those media outlets who would understand and carry our message of economic and political empowerment. There was no better friend in the press than Edgar Brookins. He was not only willing to cover the stories, he was also ready to go the “extra mile,” and bring on young people who he considered the next great generation of storytellers. His passing is a terrible loss to the journalism community in the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, and beyond. He was “the last of the “old school” news men, a treasure to our community. We will miss his easy smile, his sharp wit, and his willingness to teach as he gained prominence in his profession. In the words that are often spoken of great men, “Well done, good and faithful servant!”
