A 17-year-old Spingarn High School student has been killed as the result of a shooting that occurred in the 1300 block of Holbrook St., in Northeast Washington. The shooting site is in the Trinidad a community, more than a mile away from the school.
According to District of Columbia Public Schools spokesman Frederick Lewis, Joseph Alonzo Sharps was killed in the incident, which took place around 8:45 p.m. on Nov. 8. He was pronounced dead on arrival at a nearby hospital.
Sharps, whose address was listed in the 1500 block of Queen St., N.E., lived just a few blocks away from where the shooting took place. He was a senior at Spingarn.
Another Spingarn student shot in the incident is recovering with no life –threatening wounds.
Counselors were at the school on Nov. 9 to offer support to students and to remain there as long as they are needed.
Police have yet to release word on potential suspects in the slaying. DCPS also had no further information.
