The 16th Annual Thingamajig Invention Convention recently took place at the Prince George’s County Equestrian Center.

The YMCA-sponsored event gives nearly 3,500 local children the opportunity to create eco-friendly inventions and compete with other young inventors for prizes and awards.

Participants are encouraged to explore science, engineering and design and only use recycled materials to create their projects.

In partnership with the Federal Aviation Administration, this year’s theme was “Take Flight…Where Imaginations Soar” and youths were asked to build the “best “Top-Flight-Lighter than Air Flying Machine.”
