On May 28, Hattie Inez Ford celebrated her 100th birthday in her Northeast Washington, D.C., home. The mother of 12 was born May 25, 1911, in Goldsboro, N.C., to the late Fred and Florence Isler. She came to Washington, D.C., in her 20s to establish a new life with her late husband Hardy Ford.
Fordโs relatives say she has a strong allegiance to Christ and enjoys staying knowledgeable about current events. According to her youngest son and primary care provider Donald Ricky Ford, his mother is the matriarch of eight generations with a strong will to live and maintain her independence despite mobility problems.
Ford received letters from the offices of U.S. President Barack Obama, D.C. Mayor Vincent C. Gray, North Carolina Gov. Beverly Perdue and Goldsboro, N.C. Mayor Al King.
