The article argues that the National Endowment for the Arts’ America250 reading initiative, which includes no books by Black women among its 24 selected titles, reflects a broader pattern of excluding Black women’s voices from the nation’s literary and historical narrative. It calls for a more inclusive reading canon by highlighting landmark works by Black women authors whose contributions deepen America’s understanding of its history, culture, and identity.
