The newly renovated Takoma Education Campus, 7010 Piney Branch Road N.W., held an open house Jan. 20 for prospective students.
The school, which was shuttered a little over a year ago by a fire that erupted during repairs on the building, has been totally renovated. It is now a state-of-the-art building designed to serve children from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, according to school officials.
City officials attended a ribbon-cutting and dedication Dec. 22.
Applications are available for a lottery Jan. 30 for slots in preschool (for three year- olds) and pre-K (for four year-olds) classes.
The facility, which includes a renovated auditorium and other venues designed for community use, was available for inspection by parents of would-be students Jan. 20. Tours of the high-tech classrooms, art and science rooms, dance studio, greenhouse, gym and playgrounds were conducted after students completed a half-day schedule of classes and activities. A community garden is scheduled to be planted in the spring.
