Legendary diva extraordinaire Tina Turner proves again that she’s “simply the best,” becoming the oldest person to grace the cover of Vogue.
The queen of rock-and-roll makes her first appearance on the cover of the global fashion bible in the April 2013 issue of German Vogue. Photographed by Claudia Knoepfel and Stefan Indlekofer and styled by Nicola Knels, the singer rocks her signature honey-blond locks, red pouty lips and a silk navy Armani dress.
The 73-year-old grand dame takes the title of the oldest person to appear on the cover of the international imprint from actress Meryl Streep, who was featured at age 62 last year.
Turner is being praised for her coup, as is the magazine for its bold step in featuring an uncharacteristically older cover model.
“Well, it’s about time,” wrote Hayley Phelan of Fashionista.com. She added, “It’s kind of a surprising choice for Vogue Germany, which generally prefers young starlets and models-of-the-moment for its cover features–but it’s a welcome one.”
