Authorities have charged 16-year-old twin girls for the murder of their mother, CBSnews.com reported.

Tasmiyah and Jasmiyah Whitehead were arrested on May 21 following an investigation that started in January when their mother, Jarmecca Whitehead, 34, was found dead.

According to authorities, the teens stabbed and beat their mother to death. She was found at her Georgia home on Jan. 13. The twins told authorities they came home and found their mother dead and ran outside to flag down help.

The twins will be charged as adults, according to CBSnews.com.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation found evidence at the crime scene that eventually linked the daughters to the incident.

Police say they currently know no motives for the crime.
