The University of the District of Columbia Lady Firebirds Women’s Basketball Team advanced to a 13-7 overall record after cruising by King College, 70-57, Feb. 3 in Bristol, Tenn.

It was UDC’s sixth win in seven games and second victory over King this season.

UDC was led by graduate student guard Niqky Hughes, who scored 16 points on 6-of-10 shots and went 4-of-7 from behind the three-point line. Senior center Lillian McGill also performed well, recording her ninth double-double of the season with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Junior guard Jamilia Bonner joined the double-digit club with 14 points. UDC also saw a surge of points come from its bench, which outscored that of King College, 32 to 6.

Despite the loss, King (6-15) had three players score double digits in points, including senior forward Ashley Deans with 20, senior guard Derrika Mooney with 12 and junior forward Kalen Collins with 10. King will face North Greenville on Feb. 8. UDC will see its next action at home against Washington Adventist University (0-16 overall) on the same day.
