Comptroller Franchot to Distribute Turkeys to Families for Thanksgiving at Manna Food Center

WHAT:          Comptroller Peter Franchot will join Manna Food Center Executive Director Jackie DeCarlo, board members, staff and local elected leaders Tuesday morning to distribute turkeys to those in need for the Thanksgiving holiday. Manna Food Center — the main food bank in Montgomery County — works with government agencies, corporations, nonprofit organizations, schools, faith-based and community groups and individuals to fight hunger.

Founded in 1983, Manna Food Center strives to end hunger through education, advocacy and food distribution. Since its founding, it has distributed more than 36 million pounds of food to more than 2.3 million individuals. In the past year, Manna has provided food to 5 percent of the county’s residents facing hardship hunger, feeding 3,300 families each month in 14 locations in the county. Each family receives a three-to-five day supply of perishable and shelf-stable food.
