Mocha Moms, a support group created for stay-at-home moms of color, is set to host their 2010 Mid-Atlantic conference at Prince George’s County National Harbor with the help of Wells Fargo, who recently became a sponsor. The company will sponsor six regional conferences for Mocha Moms, which was founded in Maryland.
Wells Fargo will provide a workshop focusing on wealth-building, retirement, brokerage and investments for conference attendees, according to company Vice President Michelle Thornhill.
“This is an exciting event for us to be a part of not only to share Wells Fargo products and services with this important group but to also help them expand their investment confidence and help their families build financial security for the future,” Thornhill said in a statement.
Remaining conferences will take place in Phoenix, New Orleans, Windsor, Conn. and Charlotte.
The 2010 conference theme is “Celebrating Families – Let’s Stay Together” and includes makeup sessions with a professional makeup artist, a workout session and workshops covering parenting, spirituality and physical fitness.
Mocha Moms, a 501 (c)(3) organization, began with the publishing of a newsletter of the same name. It was distributed to over 100 moms across the country in the spring of 1997. Several months later, several moms in Prince George’s County decided to form the support group. According to Mocha Mom’s Web site, there are more than 100 chapters throughout the United States. ?
The Mocha Moms Mid-Atlantic conference takes place Aug. 20-22. For more information and to register, visit mochamoms.org.
