PRESS RELEASE FROM: Anchor PR Group
Anchor PR Group represented the Lilly Diabetes Solutions Center at the 11th Annual 5K Prince Hall Shriners Walk to Prevent Diabetes on the campus of Morgan State University, Baltimore, Maryland on Saturday, August 17th.
Over 600 of its members and friends from around the country from Seattle, Washington, to Tallahassee, Florida participated in this year’s walk to kick off of the Shriners National Convention which is being held at the Baltimore Convention Center with over 20,000 attendees. The walk goal is to raise awareness around diabetes and raise money for diabetes research.
In partnership with Dr. Otis W. Kirksey, Grand Nobles, Prince Hall Shriners director of the Prince Hall Shriners’ National Diabetes Initiative, the Lilly Diabetes Solutions Center offered support to engage members about the affordable insulin solutions that are available to its members and their families.
This coordinated effort continues to support research and advocacy outreach in underserved communities – particularly African Americans with a high rate of diabetes diagnosis. According to the National Institutes of Health, the disparity of diagnosis of people of color, specifically, African Americans are almost twice as likely as white adults to develop type 2 diabetes, and the disparity has continued to grow over the last three decades.
The Lilly Diabetes Solutions Center offers insulin affordability to help decrease the disparities. Specifically, the lower-priced insulin* Insulin Lispro Injection is available at a list price 50 percent lower than the brand name medicine. Therefore, help is available to serve the needs of African Americans with diabetes to afford medication without the danger of stretching their meds to save on dosage.
Lilly provides automatic discounts at the pharmacy counter that limits the cost of a prescription for Lilly insulins at $95 for anyone with private insurance.
