The AFRO’s Celebration Gala brought together and recognized the Founders, Leaders, and Supporters of The AFRO News, who share a demonstrated commitment to the achievements made by The AFRO News Publication in the last 130 Years.

Paying homage and tribute to The AFRO for being the oldest family-owned, continuously published Black newspaper in the country, the oldest Black-owned business (family or otherwise) in the State of MD, and the 3rd oldest (family owned or otherwise) in the country. In 1892, The AFRO was established to speak on racial equality and economic advancement for Black Americans. Today, its proclamation to be a platform to offer images and stories of issues regarding the advancement of the Black community has not changed.
