Famous rapper and business entrepreneur Curtis “50-Cent” Jackson will become the new promoter for world boxing champ Floyd Mayweather Jr., according to reports.

ESPN boxing columnist Dan Rafael reported that Jackson, long known as Mayweather’s best friend, recently earned a promoter’s license from the New York State Athletic Commission for his company TMT Promotions; the acronym TMT stands for “The Money Team.”

Mayweather, the world’s highest paid athlete according to Forbes magazine, currently represents himself under his own company Mayweather Promotions. He has teamed up with Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions to arrange his last six fights dating back to 2007, but they only deal on a fight-by-fight basis, without long-term agreements.

But according to Rafael, Jackson said during a Twitter exchange with De La Hoya on July 25 that Mayweather will never do business with Golden Boy Promotions again.

“I don’t gamble, Floyd does, but I bet you you won’t be promoting Floyd Mayweather no more. TMT PROMOTIONS,” Jackson tweeted to De La Hoya.

Rafael said that Jackson and De La Hoya exchanged several tweets, but later deleted the comments from their Twitter accounts. The conversation between the two began when De La Hoya first tweeted, “Everyone wanting to be a boxing promoter? Good luck. Easier said than done.”

Mayweather, 35, is currently serving an 87-day prison sentence at the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas after being convicted on a domestic violence charge, but is expected to be released on Aug. 3 for good behavior. The five-division champion moved up in weight to beat Miguel Cotto for his second junior middle weight title in May, a month before his jail sentence began. The fight generated 1.5 million viewers on pay-per-view.

Mayweather has told reporters that he plans to fight again before the year ends.
