As a feel-good film to see with besties, real life best friends of 30 years Chadra Pittman and Candice Ferreira, accompanied Haddish on the red carpet after wining the Good Morning America “Like A Boss,” contest.
The AFRO was present for the red carpet premiere and had the chance to catch up with Haddish, Pittman and Ferreira, right before a screening of the film. Like A Boss goes beyond stereotypes, educates on the value of hard work and collaboration and showcases the beauty of ride-or-die loyalty in friendships.
AFRO: This film reverses gender and racial expectations and stereotypes. You are a Black woman whose family takes in a White friend and has bougie friends, etc… Why was that important for this narrative?
Haddish: I feel like it’s important because there are a lot of different narratives in America and the world. Here’s the thing, there are stereotypes for a reason, because there are people that are a certain way and there are people who are different than the stereotype, and so I wanted to show all aspects. It was very important to me to show what America really looks like. And how there are different versions of all kinds of people.

AFRO: Obviously the friends here today are a testament to that… I’m interested to see if you all have been challenged being best friends of different ethnic backgrounds?
Pittman: I think people are surprised. When I say, ‘Candice,’ people automatically assume she’s African American. And when she says, ‘Chadra,’ well they kind of know. (She/ Entire Red Carpet Laughs) She’s from Belgium, I’m from the Bronx, we come from different backgrounds and our spirits are the same.
Haddish: And they both start with B. (Entire Red Carpet Laughs).
