Kevin Maxwell, currently working as superintendent in Anne Arundel County, has been tapped to serve as the chief administrator in Prince George’s County Public Schools, unnamed sources said June 26.

The job of selecting the next superintendent belonged to County Executive Rushern L. Baker III, who was given the authority earlier this year when new legislation took effect giving him authority to name the head administrator, chair of the school board and three board members. Baker, who has three children who attended Prince George’s public schools, has made school reform one of the priorities of his
administration. He announced recently that he is seeking a second term as county exec.

Baker’s camp refused to comment late June 26.

According to the Washington Post, Maxwell worked in Prince George’s schools for 22 years. He has also worked in Montgomery County schools.

The Post said he lives in Bowie, has two children who graduated from Bowie High School and was educated at the University of Maryland.

Baker has scheduled a news conference for June 28.
