Dr. Howard-John Wesley, senior pastor of Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, Va., was among the Black ministers nationwide who spoke on Charlie Kirk’s death just days after his slaying in Utah. Clergymen and women like Wesley, pictured here in January, walked the line between condemning the killing and condemning the incendiary, racist views Kirk held during his lifetime.
