Tyler Perry, the film director/actor popular for his Madea and Why Did I Get Married series, was a recent victim of identity theft. The playwright’s credit cards were stolen and perpetrators spent nearly $30,000.

Perry posted a plea on his Web site last week, asking fans to alert police if they had any tips about the identity thieves.

“Some idiot stole my credit card number,” Perry, 40, wrote on the site. “Can you believe that? Take a look at all the stuff they charged. If you know any of these people, call the police.”

He went on to list charges accrued over a week-long period, including several airline and movie tickets, clothing and Toys R Us purchases.

Some of the charges, such as several Delta Airline tickets, have been refunded to the Atlanta-based entertainer.
