Through August 2010, Mahogany Books will host an area-wide book drive campaign to increase literacy and access to books among the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
Residents are encouraged to donate books from various categories such as fiction, board books, educational workbooks, biography, science, mat and art.
For those unable to visit a drop-off site, donations can be made online. Current drop-off sites are Howard University Bookstore, 2225 Georgia Ave. N.W. and BloomBars, 3222 11th St. N.W.
Beginning July 24, the largest distribution of books will be conducted at the Capital Hip Hop Soul Fest, where area youth can pick books of their choosing.
“We are excited to promote literacy in our community,” said Derrick Young, CEO of Mahogany Books, in a press release. “Our vision is to be a leader in the community, by promoting reading, writing, and knowledge of self as a fundamental way to enrich the life of every individual. This book drive allows us to realize part of that vision.”
