Broadmead, Inc., a Quaker-founded Life Plan Community and a leading senior living provider in Baltimore County announces a historic milestone: the acquisition of five contiguous properties in Sparks, Md., and the development of Broadmead at Ridgebrook, the organizationโs first off-site campus expansion.
Located less than three miles north of Broadmeadโs current campus, the Sparks site (901, 910, 920, 930, and 934 Ridgebrook Road) spans 60 developed and landscaped acres and includes three mid-rise office buildings totaling over 221,000 square feet. These interconnected buildings will be thoughtfully transformed into 80 spacious independent living residences complemented by expansive common areas, wellness spaces, dining venues and outdoor amenities โ all designed to support a vibrant and connected lifestyle for older adults. These amenities, in addition to those on Broadmeadโs existing campus, will be available and shared by residents on both campuses.
โThis is a monumental step in Broadmeadโs 46-year history,โ said Jay D. Prince, president and CEO of Broadmead, Inc. โOver the past decade, weโve evolved into a community of choice in Baltimore County. The demand for the Broadmead experience has never been higher, and Ridgebrook will allow us to welcome more older adults into our thriving, mission-driven community.โ

The expansion, pending approval by the Maryland Department of Aging, follows an extensive due diligence process including market and financial feasibility studies, architectural and engineering reviews, and planning that aligns with Broadmeadโs commitment to sustainability and person-centered living. The result is a bold, visionary project that will expand Broadmeadโs capacity while preserving its values and excellence in aging services.
Kerry Zimmerman, clerk of the Board of Trustees, added, โBroadmead at Ridgebrook is more than a physical expansion โ it is a powerful expression of our communityโs vision for the future.
We are not only building new homes, we are extending a culture rooted in integrity, compassion and lifelong vitality. The Board is proud to help steward this next chapter.โ
