Baltimore County to take over Randallstown, Dundalk swim centers as Y exits

Baltimore County will assume operations of the Randallstown and Dundalk swim centers on Aug. 31 after the Y in Central Maryland ends its 15-year partnership, citing facility limitations. Community members worry the transition could include a temporary closure and disrupt access to vital swim programs that support safety, health and connection, particularly for Black youth.

Baltimore County NAACP raises money to send students to national ACT-SO competition 

The Baltimore County NAACP is raising $30,000 to send local high school students to the NAACP’s national ACT-SO competition at its annual convention in Chicago. Through the yearlong enrichment program, students advance from local contests to a national stage where they showcase work in fields ranging from the arts to STEM, while organizers say the experience builds confidence, community and opportunity.

Turner Station receives federal funding to fight flooding 

Turner Station, a historic Black community in Baltimore County, has received a $3.15 million federal grant to improve flood resiliency and reduce decades of persistent flooding. The funding will support the first phase of the community’s Flood Resilience Roadmap, including mitigation pumps, drainage upgrades and new plantings to protect homes, streets and infrastructure.
