Chris Brown turned himself into Los Angeles police on Aug. 5 to answer charges stemming from a car accident last month.
The 24-year-old singer and actor had until Aug. 6 to go to a police station to get booked and take another mug shot, but decided to go a day earlier to avoid the media and paparazzi. Brown’s plan worked, as he entered the courtroom for about 45 minutes and left without undue attention. Brown was released on his own recognizance, and did not have to post bail.
Brown was involved in an alleged hit-and-run fender-bender in May. A follow-up hearing is set for Aug. 15.
Brown took to Twitter to complain about the attention his legal woes have received, referencing his assault on his girlfriend, Rihanna, several years ago. “Being famous is amazing when it’s for ur music and talent,” he wrote. “I’m tired of being famous for a mistake I made when i was 18. I’m cool & over it!”
Brown went as far as to say after his next album, he may be done with music. “Don’t worry mainstream America. After this X album, it’ll probably be my last album,” he wrote on Twitter.
Brown’s new album, “X,” had been scheduled to come out July 16, but was pushed back to later this month.
