Prince George’s County Police are still looking for suspects in separate shooting and stabbing incidents in Capitol Heights and Seat Pleasant that took place within an hour of each other. Meanwhile, a 17-year old from Bowie is in jail after being arrested in the stabbing death of his father.

Son Charged With Murder in Father’s Death

Prince George’s County Police arrested Barba Koroma, 17, in the murder of his father on July 26. According to police reports, the elder of the same name, Barba Koroma, 62, was still alive when he was found, but eventually died at the scene from stab wounds.

The younger Koroma has been charged as an adult with first and second degree murder and is being held without bond.

Patrol officers found the younger Koroma walking out of a wooded area near the scene with minor injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment before he was taken to the Prince George’s police homicide unit where he was taken in for questioning.

According to police, the father and son were previously arguing inside a van the father was driving. The Koroma son admitted to stabbing his father shortly before the accident.  After the van crashed, the younger Koroma is believed to have dragged his father out of the vehicle and into the woods in that vicinity.

Investigation Continues in Similar Separate Incidents

Police are still searching for suspects in separate stabbing and shooting incidents that occurred within 45 minutes of each other on July 25 in Capitol Heights and Seat Pleasant.  However, the two incidents don’t appear to be related.

Shortly prior to 8:30 p.m. on the 600 block of Birchleaf Avenue, Seat Pleasant and Prince George’s County police responded to a call and found a male victim with multiple gunshot wounds. The first responding officers administered immediate “life saving” measures when they arrived.  After treatment from Prince George’s EMS, the victim was taken to the University of Maryland Prince George’s County Hospital and is in stable condition after sustaining very critical injuries, according to Seat Pleasant Police Chief Devan A. Martin.

Police have distributed a lookout for a male approximately 5 feet, 8 inches with a slim build who was wearing a white shirt at the time of the attack.

Then around 9:15 p.m., police said that employees at a Jerry’s Restaurant on the 5700 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Highway called and reported a stabbing.

When officers arrived they found a male victim with multiple stab wounds. He was taken to the hospital after what were described as very critical injuries. Police do not believe that the victim was stabbed where he was found, and they are working to determine a timeline.

However, during a hastily called press conference in the restaurant’s parking lot, Chief Martin said that the incidents are isolated and there appears to be no immediate nor is there a continuous threat to the community. Martin also said that the early phase of the investigation didn’t find any evidence that these two isolated incidents are gang-related.

However, Martin would not reveal any specific information about the suspects in either incident. He said that police have identified a few people of interest and are working with Prince George’s County police as the investigation continues.
