A Washington, D.C. police officer has been charged with first-degree murder after a Prince George’s County woman and her baby were found dead in Temple Hills.

Prince George’s County Police charged Richmond Diallo Binns Phillips June 3 with the murder of 20-year old Wynetta Wright. Her daughter, one-year-old Jaylin Wright, was also found dead.

Wright’s mother contacted the Baltimore County Police on May 31 after she hadn’t heard from her daughter. Baltimore County Police said investigators concluded that Wright had been expected to return to her home in Prince George’s County.

Wynetta Wright’s body was found on June 2 lying in Oxon Run Stream Valley Park with trauma to the body. Jaylin Wright’s body was found later in an abandoned vehicle in the 2400 block of Southern Avenue. Both were pronounced dead on the scene.

Police have not given a cause of death for Jaylin Wright but have not ruled out the cause of death could have been from the excessive heat that hit the Washington, D.C. area during the week of the Memorial Day holiday.

Wynetta Wright was a member of the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Explorers program and was possibly pursuing a career in law enforcement.

Phillips, who surrendered to Prince Georges’ police, was charged with homicide and is being held without bond. Police investigators have not indicated a motive for the murders.
