Radio personality Big Tigger replaced the iconic Donnie Simpson on WPGC’s morning time slot. He is joined by co-hosts Danella and comedian Donnell Rawlings.??
May 3rd Films, an independent production company led by Kirk Frasier, shot a reality show pilot and went on the daunting task of depicting the life of District City Councilman Marion Barry. There’s no word yet if the pilot has been picked up by a cable television station or network.??
Qwanell “Que” Mosley made headlines when he was kicked out of Day 26, an R&B group created by music mogul Diddy. After relocating to the DMV area, Que recently gathered the area’s hip-hop music industry insiders at Recess Lounge to get a first listen of his latest project, a mixtape called The Que Files. Redefining himself as a solo artist, the mixtape features R&B singer Lil’ Mo, D.C. Don Juan and Que’s longtime girlfriend Dawn Richard.
??After closing in January due to a string of violent incidents, Love nightclub reopened last Saturday with more security. Despite reopening, owner Marc Barnes has plans to sell the night spot.??
?• First Lady Michelle Obama was spotted taking Sasha and Malia to the Alicia Keys concert last week. Robin Thicke, who also performed that night, hosted an afterparty at The Park at Fourteenth.??
• Sonia Sanchez was spotted at Busboys and Poets. Sanchez held a book reading of Morning Haiku, her first book in 10 years.??
• Author and political anylast Donna Brazile was out buying white and purple flowers on the Hill for a friend’s garden. She was also spotted dining with former Social Secretary Desirée Rogers for three hours (now you know they must have been talking about something good) at Oceanaire last Wednesday.??
• The National Urban League celebrated Congressional leadership last week at a reception on a rooftop deck overlooking the Capitol. Members of Congress were honored including Maxine Waters, Mel Watts, Lacy Clay, Greg Meeks and Al Green.??
• Actress Rosario Dawson was spotted dining at Birch & Barley last week, wearing black skinny jeans, a shawl and gold hoop earrings. She was in town for Voto Latino’s five-year anniversary kickoff event.
??• Rapper Wale was spotted partying all last week, showing up at night spots including Shadow Room and Indulj Lounge.
??• Director Lee Daniels was spotted at a recent book launch for Black is the New Green: Marketing to Affluent African Americans, held at the home of Reginald Van Lee. Other D.C. power players, including rumored “D.C. Housewife” Stacie Turner and Clyde Williams, were also in attendance.
