On April 4, 1968, the life of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. was cut short by an assassin’s bullet. By the time of his death, King had shifted his rhetoric to include the issues of people facing poverty–not only Black causes. His work gave rise to the next generation of leaders, such as former president of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), Freeman Hrabowski and award-winning journalist and CEO of Black Star Network (BSN), Roland Martin.
