Singer Kelly Rowland, 33, has experienced happiness and sadness within the past month. On Nov. 4, Rowland became a mother for the first time, giving birth to her son, Titan. On Dec. 2, Rowland lost her mother, Doris Rowland Garrison, 66, who died after going into cardiac arrest.
“It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my mother, Doris Rowland Garrison,” Rowland said in a statement to The Insider With Yahoo. “She was an incredible soul who made countless sacrifices so that I could become the woman—and now mother—I am today. We humbly appreciate all the love and support and only ask for privacy during this difficult time.”
Among the sacrifices her mother made was to share her child with Tina and Mathew Knowles – parents of Rowland’s Destiny’s Child mate Beyoncé – allowing her to move in with the Knowles while the girls were forging their musical careers.
Rowland’s loss comes just seven months after she tied the knot with husband Tim Weatherspoon, after dating for three years.
And, for the star, 2014 was busy professionally as well. Rowland was featured on songs with artists such as Joe, Adrian Marcel, Beau Vallis, Tank and Michelle Williams. She released a song and video for a song entitled “The Game,” which was featured on Pepsi’s visual album for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Rowland also started recording her fifth studio album and was named a spokesperson for cosmetic company Caress.
